American Science and Engineering (AS&E), part of OSI Systems Inc’s Security division, is to provide its Z Portal® cargo and vehicle screening systems to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) department. It is new business valued at approximately $21 million.
The order was issued under CBP’s indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract it won in October 2016 − it has now received approximately $56 million in orders under this IDIQ contract.
The Z Portal system is the only drive-through cargo and vehicle inspection system which uses multiple detection technologies to provide up to six views of the vehicle under inspection, imaging from three sides simultaneously to show organic and metallic threats and contraband – such as explosives, weapons, currency and drugs. It can handle up to 400 passenger vehicles per hour.
